Children’s Day at the Juvie

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
Hebrews 13:1-3

In the Channel, we believe that, though the prison walls are high enough to separate inmates from the world, there aren’t any walls to separate them from God’s Boundless Love!

The Young People’s Home – formerly known as the Children’s Prison – is a correctional remand facility that provides detention/custody for young people from 8yrs to 18yrs either awaiting trials or sentenced with a guilty verdict in Jos.

In the past few years, we have spent Children’s Day, May 27th, at the Young People’s Home; ministering to the inmates with the aim of making lasting differences in their lives.

From the love-themed painting activity to the branded shirts we gifted them, the sumptuous brunch and snacks, the contemplative sermon, the delightful games to the transformative altar call; you could see on the faces of the young inmates they had just had a second-to-none life-changing experience.

The beneficiaries were able to express their feelings through the painting, they were visibly touched by the sermon and readily surrendered during the altar call.

In the painting activity, we asked them to express what love meant to them through their artwork and we had some interesting responses…

Someone drew a drum and said as soon as he gets home the first thing he would do is get water from their drinking drum at home to drink water….to rest his mind.

Another said he misses home so much that he painted his house and the road to his house with the roundabout there.
Another drew a car and a house and said he would change and be a better person so he could buy a house and a car for his mum and dad

Someone drew a cross expressing the love of Jesus to us…
Another painted flowers because his mum loves flowers and it reminds him of his mum and he loves his mum and misses her so much…

They will never be the same again and that’s all thanks to you and your support for them through the Channel!
