In partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Services, The Channel organised a visit to the Jos Correctional Services (formerly known as Jos Prisons) on the 28 November 2020. The target beneficiaries, this time was the female inmates at the Prisons.
In preparation for the activity, we carried out a needs assessment visit. The coordinating members involved went to the prison and made enquiries as to how many inmates they had and what the most pressing needs were. The most pressing needs requested for included bathing soap, detergent powder, skin cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes and female clothing. By God’s grace we were able to meet these immediate needs and more!
We reached out to them with the gifts they requested while encouraging them with interactive sessions based on Bible principles.
Our visit obviously yielded worthwhile results as evidenced by the inmates themselves and the Prisons authorities.
The beneficiaries were happy, they felt loved. They appreciated the fact that we remembered them and gave us the impression that for us to come and visit them, it means we understand what they are going through. One of the representatives of the female inmates stated that few days ago, before our visit, they were lacking some things and she told the head they needed some toiletries and the head told them to go and pray, that God will send a helper and days later we came through. It felt to them we were certainly God-sent. They were thankful and prayed to see us again soon.
