A Walk in the Park

A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
Psalm 68:5

Once again, the Channel decided to put a smile on the faces of widows in Miango; a community where a good number of people, mainly women and children, have been displaced as a result of insecurity from killer herdsmen.

In a bid to go beyond the much-needed material aid, we made an effort to create a memorable experience for the widows.

We invited the women, ten of them, out of their community to a Wildlife Park. These women have lived for long with the trauma of losing their husbands and family members to invaders’ attacks.

On the concept behind A Walk in the Park, Marie-Anne Longbit, the Project Manager says the welfare of the widow’s children was a priority.
‘With the summer break over, and schools reopened, it’s that time of the year when farm produce is not ready for harvest, school fees need to be paid, school supplies to be purchased and children to be back in school. With this in mind, the Channel thought to bring the widows for a Walk in the Park, relieving them of stress by playing childhood games that brought back memories, putting smiles and laughter on their faces, and cash gifts to augment their children’s school fees as they go back to school’.

For many of them, it was a first-time experience at the Wildlife Park. We prayed and played with them, explored the wildlife, and had lunch together.

It was heartwarming hearing the widows taking turns to talk about how they had expanded their businesses and changed their lives with our donations to them over a year ago. Courtesy of donations from our kind-hearted friends and partners like you, we were able to gift them five times more than we did the last time.

The Coordinator of the Widows Group, Rev. Agara, while saying ‘thank you’ on behalf of the Widows, described the Channel as a true channel of blessings from God to them. They prayed that God continues to open more doors for the Channel to impact more lives.

The path to recovery for victims of armed conflict isn’t as easy as a walk in the park but your giving goes a long way to making a difference in their lives.
